PACDEFF 2018 will be a three day conference consisting of two days of world class presentations and one day of contemporary and relevant workshops. It will be fully combined with the biennial symposium of the Australian Aviation Psychology Association (AAvPA).

It will be held over 7-9 November at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Coogee Beach, Sydney.

Dealing with Difficult Personalities in Aviation – Tony Merritt (Sydney Clinical Psychology)

Personality is central to how we function and interact at work. When placed under pressure personality becomes either a resilience factor or a vulnerability. Unhelpful traits can be turned up and adaptive coping gets turned down. How we deal with someone with a difficult personality can become more challenging as their stress increases. It requires an understanding of personality traits and the self-defeating patterns they can drive. This workshop will look at several models of personality and self-defeating patterns, and consider some approaches and strategies for dealing with difficult people at work.
